U.S. approves sale of more missiles to NATO ally Poland

The United States has cleared the sale of $250 million worth of HIMARS to Poland, a key NATO ally, as a bulwark against potential Russian aggression.

The State Dept. approved the sale of truck-mounted High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems earlier this week.

Included:

  • 16 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System M31A1 Unitary rockets
  • 9 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System M30A1 alternative warheads
  • 61 Army Tactical Missile Systems, or ATACMS, M57 Unitary long-range guided missiles

Poland wants the weapons for homeland defense and to deter “regional threats,” according to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency. [source]

In addition, the State Dept. approved the sale of $250 million worth of AIM-120C-7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) for the country’s American-made fighter aircraft as well. [source]
