Tillerson: Iran ‘arming terrorist organizations’ throughout Middle East

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Wednesday Iran was definitely arming terrorist groups around the Middle East, and that the U.S. and its European allies will be working to thwart Tehran’s efforts.

“What worries us most is the ballistic missile programs, destabilizing Yemen and exporting weapons to terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah and Hamas foreign fighters in Iraq and Syria,” Tillerson said in remarks published on the State Department website.

“Iran is only aiming to destabilize the region, and many of these conflicts are ongoing because of Iran’s involvement,” he said.

“Together with our partners in the region and in Europe, we want to hold Iran accountable for its actions.”

In addition to sanctions, it’s likely that the U.S. will work to strengthen its own allies in the Middle East militarily. [source]
