Terrorists eyeing train derailments, food poisoning in Europe

“Jihadist propaganda” indicates that terrorists could soon target rail traffic and the food supply in Europe, according to French authorities.

“Due to recent jihadist propaganda urging plans for train derailment, particular attention should be paid to any reports of intrusion or attempted sabotage on the premises of railways,” a seven-page report compiled by the police directorate at the beginning of September reads, as cited by Le Parisien.

The document focuses primarily on various aspects of “jihadist propaganda” over the previous three months. It also warns that terrorists are instructed to make explosives “as shown in tutorials,” keep their radicalization hidden, and calls on “lone wolves” to cause “train derailments, forest fires, or food poisoning” throughout Europe.

Police confirm in the report that the propaganda analysis confirms “the threats of attack remain very high” in France (and, as we’ve seen this past week, in Britain as well). The confidential report also states that in addition to rail networks, authorities should increase security and surveillance of schools and universities, including “sensitive products or materials” which terrorists could steal from laboratories and other institutions to make explosives.
