Close Target Reconnaissance Course

Intro to Close Target Reconnaissance is designed to give students the basic knowledge of conducting reconnaissance of a location or target area, how to plan recon missions, the study of maps for recon planning, and how to highlight vulnerabilities on their own homes and properties. This course is ideal for students who have or are planning to purchase retreat properties. Students will learn to gather information that fill critical gaps in an Area Study.

Concepts taught include:

  • CTR vs regular reconnaissance
  • CTR team roles and responsibilities
  • CTR procedures
  • Tactical vs technical intelligence
  • CTR & surveillance voice procedure
  • Lock recognition & vulnerabilities
  • Practical exercises

Samuel Culper is a former military intelligence NCO and contract Intelligence analyst. He spent three years in Iraq and Afghanistan and is now the intelligence and warfare researcher at Forward Observer.
