The North Korean government is warning that any attempt by the U.S. Navy at establishing a blockade of the country would be a “big step” toward a nuclear conflict.
Warning of “merciless self-defense” measures, Pyongyang urged President Donald Trump to refrain from ordering a blockade because such move would be an “extremely dangerous and big step towards the nuclear war.”
The statement came after Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said this week that “the international community must take additional measures to enhance maritime security, including the right to interdict maritime traffic transporting goods to and from” North Korea.
In September, the idea of imposing a naval blockade was tossed around in some policy circles and at the UN, but the measure was opposed by both Russia and China. [source]
