FBI: No overseas link to terrorist groups in Vegas shooting

Authorities investigating the shootings in Las Vegas say that so far they have not found any link between the deceased and alleged killer, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, who is white, and overseas terrorist groups.

Police said that, as of now, they don’t know Paddock’s “belief system,” but it does appear that his attack, which has left 50 dead and around 200 people wounded, was premeditated.

According to multiple witnesses, Paddock allegedly fired at a crowd of people attending the-the Route 91 Festival Sunday night on the Vegas strip from a room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Casino using automatic weapons. Police said they believe he killed himself.

Investigators say they discovered at least 10 rifles in Paddock’s hotel room, which he occupied three days ago. “We located numerous firearms within the room that he occupied. All’s we know is that they were rifles,” Las Vegas Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told a news conference.

One former FBI agent in Vegas at the time of the shootings said it appeared obvious to him that the attack was premeditated.

“Right now, we believe it’s a sole actor, a lone-wolf-type actor,” the sheriff said.
