The nation’s premier federal law enforcement agency is under crisis, as more evidence emerges suggesting that ranking officials within the FBI and, likely, the Department of Justice during the Obama administration, conspired against President Donald Trump.
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., told an American news network on Tuesday that an FBI whistleblower has confirmed to congressional investigators that a “secret society” exists within the bureau, and that its members worked to prevent Trump from winning the November 2016 election.
In addition, the society members met after Trump won, in secret locations away from the Justice Department and FBI headquarters in Washington, D.C., Johnson said.
On Monday night, Reps. John Ratcliffe R-Texas, and Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., spoke about the “secret society” texts between FBI investigators Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, which were contained within a 384-page batch of text messages delivered to Congress from the DOJ last Friday. Of note Ratcliffe says that Strzok and Page were included in the clandestine anti-Trump cabal at the highest levels of the American intelligence community.
“What we learned today in the thousands of text messages that weve reviewed that perhaps they may not have done that (checked their bias at the door). There’s certainly a factual basis to question whether or not they acted on that bias. We know about this insurance policy that was referenced in trying to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president,” Ratcliffe said.
“We learned today from information that in the immediate aftermath of his election that there may have been a secret society of folks within the Department of Justice and the FBI to include Page and Strzok to be working against him,” he added. [source]
(Analyst comment: These two lawmakers, as well as others who are looking into all of this, have been quick to say that they cannot make any conclusions as yet as to what took place and what did not take place throughout the 2016 election cycle and since. That said, it is stunning to learn that this sort of politicization of the FBI could ever occur in the first place. “Secret societies” within the highest ranks of the most sophisticated law enforcement and counterintelligence organization in the world is the thing of Hollywood political thrillers — they’re not supposed to exist for real.
This situation has the potential to spark widespread political unrest throughout the country. Forget about the fact that the FBI’s credibility has been destroyed by this revelation. The polarization of our country, as evidenced by the increasing rancor both in D.C. and in the electorate, the tone of debate, and the distinct lack of any willingness at all on either side to compromise, all point to an explosion of anger and frustration at some point. And yet, Congress has to get to the bottom of this. They have no choice.
The level of mistrust between the political Right and Left in America has never been greater, at least not in my lifetime. — JD)
