Marine Corps commandant tells troops ‘there’s a war coming’

The top Marine commander and the top enlisted NCO in the Corps have told personnel in Norway that their peacetime mission could soon turn into conflict.

Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Robert Neller and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps Ronald Green visited Marines at a Norwegian Home Guard base on Thursday as part of their annual Christmas tour.

Both men gave stark warnings to the contingent of Marines rotating through, predicting — in Neller’s words — a “big-ass fight” on the horizon.

“I hope I’m wrong, but there’s a war coming,” Neller said. ” … You’re in a fight here, an informational fight, a political fight, by your presence.”

He added that he expects the Marine Corps to reorient itself to emerging threats in the Pacific region and Russia.

“Just remember why you’re here,” Green added. “They’re watching. Just like you watch them, they watch you. We’ve got 300 Marines up here; we could go from 300 to 3,000 overnight. We could raise the bar.” [source]
