Earlier this year, the U.S. military a Massive Ordnance Air-Blast bomb, or MOAB (nicknamed “Mother Of All Bombs) on an ISIS tunnel complex in Afghanistan, marking the first time the weapon was used since it was developed and placed into service in 2003.
At 11 tons of TNT, it is the most powerful non-nuclear weapon in any military’s arsenal. The weapon reportedly destroyed the tunnel complex and killed 33 fighters at the time.
Now, however, Iran is claiming to have a bomb that is even bigger:
Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, Aerospace Force Commander of the Islamic Republican Guard Corps (IRGC), said: “Following a proposal by the Aerospace Force of the IRGC, [Iran’s] Defence Industries [Organisation] manufactured a 10-tonne bomb.
“These bombs are at our disposal.
“They can be launched from Ilyushin aircraft and they are highly destructive.”
Russia also has a super-bomb that is lighter than the U.S. MOAB but reportedly can deliver up to 44 tons of TNT.
