The head of Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah told a rally in Beirut attended by tens of thousands the group would again turn its focus toward Israel after fighting has settled down in Syria.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said he hoped President Donald J. Trump’s “foolish decision” to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital would mark the “beginning of the end” of the Jewish state.
Nasrallah told the crowd that the militant group is nearly done fighting extremists elsewhere in the region, and will now “give all its time” to Jerusalem and the Palestinians. “Death to Israel!” he said during the address, which was broadcast from an undisclosed location and shown on big screens.
The group expelled Israeli forces from southern Lebanon in 2000 and fought the Israel Defense Force to a standstill in 2006. Now, it is believed to be equipped with battled-hardened fighters and thousands of rockets that can strike most of Israel.
Nasrallah called on Palestinian armed groups and others in the region to come up with “unified strategy” to confront Trump’s decision. [source]
