Forward Observer’s Top 10 Podcast Episodes of 2016

It’s that time of year when we reflect on the past 365 days and look forward to the next.  It’s been a pretty good year here at Forward Observer and I’m definitely looking forward to recording episodes in 2017, too.

To be honest, I got off to a rocky start with the audio quality, but you’ll notice that the 2016 episodes are greatly improved.  Here’s a look back at our Top 10 podcast episodes listened to in 2016…

1. In Episode 034, I sat down (over the phone) with the leading voices in the Liberty movement in this round table discussion.  It featured Mike Vanderboegh, founder of the III% Movement, who unfortunately left us this year.

2. In Episode 042, our good friend John Mosby, a former special operations soldiers, drops by and talks about an unconventional approach to community security.  He is, after all, our unconventional warfare expert and he has some perspectives that every American needs to hear.

3. John Mosby makes another appearance in Episode 016.  He talks about post-SHTF security and why the Underground is important to the fight for Liberty.

4. In Episode 008, I speak with some residents of the Appalachian Mountains in western North Carolina about being prepared and building community.  There’s a little something called, “The Mountain Way” that we all need to adopt if we’re to be successful in navigating a volatile future.

5. Ah, the very first Forward Observer Podcast!  Episode 001 is weighing at #5 most-listened to in 2016, and I guess that’s because folks like to start from the very beginning.  If that’s you, then thank you for listening and I’m glad to have you along for the ride.

6. In Episode 009, I speak with our good friend John Jacob Schmidt (of Radio Free Redoubt & AmRRON) about Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) collection to improve situational awareness and security.  I also talk about Operation Urban Charger, our battle tracking operation during the Ferguson Riots of 2014.

7. Following close behind is Episode 007, which also covers the topic of SIGINT, specially communications monitoring known as COMINT, or Communications Intelligence.  Sparks is a US Army veteran and a former writer for the Special Forces underground publication, The Resistor.

8. For small operations, efficiency and effectiveness go hand in hand.  We have to be ruthlessly efficient if we’re to compete.  And that’s why I dedicate just about an entire hour covering ways that we can become more efficient and more effective.

9. In Episode 021, I talk about two Intelligence tasks I’d be doing if I lived in Baltimore or anywhere experiencing increases in crime.

10. And rounding out the Top 10 is an episode that’s near and dear to my heart.  Battle tracking is the practice of following development in a battle, conflict, or — in this case — a riot.  It often involves visualizing raw data, which is why it’s so powerful as a tool in our tool belt.

Mike Shelby is a former military intelligence NCO and contract intelligence analyst. He spent three years in Iraq and Afghanistan and is now the intelligence and warfare researcher at Forward Observer.
