Good morning. Here’s your Early Warning for Tuesday, 21 November.

Yesterday, the Trump administration moved to place North Korea back on the list of state sponsors of terror, after the country was removed by the Bush administration in 2008. The move will increase sanctions against North Korea. Although Japan and South Korea both welcomed the move, North Korea vowed not to give up its nuclear weapons citing that the nuclear capability is a deterrent against a U.S. invasion. While U.S. sanctions enforced by China may squeeze North Korea, it’s difficult to see how the Kim regime will give up nuclear weapons as long as it remains in power. Meanwhile, U.S. power remains on display in the region, as the Air Force plans a show of force this month or next using a dozen recently deployed F-35 Joint Strike Fighters.

As we’ve reported in Strategic Intelligence over the last two weeks, NATO is in the process of transforming its command structure to enable a more efficient response in a war with Russia. At a recent gathering, an American general assigned to NATO told a reporter that NATO troops “will fight” if put to the test against Russian forces. In this week’s issue of Strategic Intelligence, I’ll be breaking down a new strategy document published by NATO late last week .
