Good morning. Here’s your Early Warning for Monday, 11 December 2017.
A Bangladeshi man allegedly set off an explosive device during the work commute in a bus terminal in Manhattan this morning. Four were injured by the blast. The suspect is in custody, and is wounded himself. The New York Police Department preliminary reporting identifies the explosive device as a pipe bomb. This may have been an intended suicide bombing, as the suspect was wearing an explosive vest of some sort, according to police.
Earlier this year, Taiwan was a hot button issue for Trump’s foreign policy in southeast Asia. Although we’ve not heard too much about a potential war there, a senior Chinese diplomat warned on Friday that China would invade Taiwan if a U.S. Navy ship docks there. “The day that a U.S. Navy vessel arrives in Kaohsiung [Taiwan] is the day that our People’s Liberation Army unifies Taiwan with military force,” the diplomat said. Reports indicate that Taiwan’s president is mulling a declaration of formal independence from China, which would almost certainly lead to war.
And according to a press release, NBC’s Megyn Kelly will sit down with three women who have accused the president of sexual misconduct. The women “will share their claims, which President Trump has denied, and stories together for the first time on television.” Some speculate that President Trump could be called on to testify in a lawsuit brought against him in New York.
