Good morning. Here’s your Early Warning for Thursday, 08 November 2018. (All times Central.)
Early Warning: Yesterday was busy. Today at 5pm local in each time zone, MoveOn.org is organizing nationwide events to protest the forced resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and what they’re calling the attempted blocking of the Mueller investigation. According to there website, over 900 protest locations are planned for tonight. [Source: https://www.trumpisnotabovethelaw.org/event/mueller-firing-rapid-response/search/] They’re calling for peaceful protests, but there’s always a risk that more extreme groups will use these events as cover to commit political violence and vandalism.
In other news, Smash Racism D.C. — an ‘antifascist’, anti-racist action group — protested and threatened the family of FoxNews host Tucker Carlson last night. “I called my wife. She had been in the kitchen alone getting ready to go to dinner and she heard pounding on the front door and screaming… Someone started throwing himself against the front door and actually cracked the front door.” A group of 20 protestors began shouting; one screaming into a bullhorn: “We want you to know, we know where you sleep at night.” Others began chanting, “Tucker Carlson, we will fight! We know where you sleep at night!” The protesters also carried signs with his address on it, as a show of intimidation, and demanded that he “leave town”.
The President meets with Supreme Court Justices today, and then meets with Secretary Pompeo.
Of Note: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 85, fell at her office last night and was later taken to the hospital where doctors said she fractured three ribs.
Caravan Watch: The Pentagon is no longer using ‘Operation Faithful Patriot’ to refer to the border deployment of active duty troops, although troops are expected to remain there for as long as necessary. The caravan remains in Mexico City, what they consider to be a halfway point, as they await a decision on the next moves.
Secretary Pompeo: Nothing significant to report.
Defense Secretary Mattis: Reporting from earlier this week indicated that Secretary Mattis would meet with his Chinese counterpart this week, although it wasn’t listed on his daily schedule.
