The balance of growth and inflation is the biggest issue central banks face according to Ray Dalio, the founder the world’s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater. The US is further ahead in the economic cycle than Europe, meaning that our economic stimulus and interest may take a turn for the worst before Europe. Our economy is currently well-balanced and stimulated because of the new tax bill, but the cycle will continue, eventually entering a phase where growth slows and rates increase. The challenge of central banks will be operating and setting rates that are sustainable in the times of slow growth.
