Region I
RI – This report cites a shoot out that includes Young Gunnas, the Young Niggas in Charge and Young Thuggin’ Soldiers in the city of Providence. (SOURCE; 10 January 2017)
Region II
NY – A 13 year old girl in Mount Vernon was killed in a crossfire exchange between two rival gang members. The accused assailant David Hardy is employed by the city of Mount Vernon as a parks and recreation specialist. The FBI became involved in the case after Hardy crossed state lines and fled to North Carolina. (SOURCE; 17 January 2017)
Region III
DE – Darius Jamal Shields-Dryden, 26, pleaded guilty to multiple charges of purchasing firearms for juveniles and falsifying information to federally licensed firearm dealers in Wilmington. Shields-Dryden is associated with the Wilmington street gang Only My Brothers and had been surveilled buying weapons for juvenile members of the gang. (SOURCE; 12 January 2017)
Region IV
TN – Tennessee experienced their deadliest year on record in 2016, in terms of homicides. One-third of all Memphis homicides were gang-related. The Memphis Police Department produced a powerpoint presentation with the details. (SOURCE; 10 January 2017)
Region V
MN – St. Paul police states that targeting gang activity will be established as a top priority for the department in 2017. While most serious crimes to include assault and rape in the St. Paul area have declined in 2016 gunshots have increased by nearly 29%. Police have correlated the increase in shooting with local gang activities. (SOURCE; 15 January 2017)
Region VI
LA – Ten members of the 39ers Gang (3NG) began standing trial on a 47-count indictment of gang racketeering and murder in New Orleans. The 39ers are identified as an alliance between the 3NG and G Strip gangs of the Third Ward and Upper 9th Ward neighborhoods, respectively, that had dominated the local heroin trade. Assistant U.S. Attorney Myles Ranier initiated the prosecution of the 39ers by describing them as responsible for a 2 year reign of terror that significantly contributed to New Orleans having the highest per-capita murder rate in the country in 2011. Region VII
MO – Eight alleged member of the Latin Kings were arrested in St. Joseph on Friday, January the 13th. The eight suspects are being charged with crimes that include murder and racketeering. Local law enforcement had worked with federal agencies, to include the ATF and US Attorney’s Office, for years to apprehend and indict the Latin Kings members, who will be prosecuted at the federal level. Region VIII
UT – Two alleged gang members in West Valley City have been charged with a shooting murder in which two others were also wounded. Martin Diaz, 25, and David Diaz, 17, are being charged with murder, four counts of first degree felony firearm discharge with serious bodily injury, and 3 counts of second-degree felony firearm discharge with injury. David Diaz, whom is possibly identified as a key member in his unidentified gang, is being charged as an adult. (SOURCE; 13 January 2017)
Region IX
CA – A 15 year old boy in was stabbed to death in a violent altercation involving rival street gangs in Fontana. The two unidentified gangs encountered each other outside of a local movie theater in which they begin to antagonize each other by throwing gangs signs. The provocation escalated into a brawl in the parking lot during which the victim was stabbed by a 14 year old rival gang member at 9:45 pm. The stabbing victim later died, and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder. (SOURCE; January 16, 2017)
Region X
WA – A suspected accomplice of a gang affiliated shooting that occurred in Yakima was released on a $125,000 bail. The 20 year old suspect was arrested on Wednesday January 11th after being identified as the driver of the getaway vehicle for the January 3rd shooting. No further arrests were made no was there further information was provide alluding towards any specific gang. (SOURCE; January 14, 2017) (Analyst Comment: Yakima County has the most gangs per capita in Washington state.)
